Do You Want to Be Different? (and better!)

Follow the crowd, or try something new? what do you choose?

I have spent part of this summer redecorating my house. It’s a very small house, so it doesn’t take much to change it up. I painted, tiled a backsplash, got a new kitchen faucet, new carpet on the stairs, and a new couch. Now I’m looking for a new accent chair. This chair has been such a struggle.

My whole life I have been attracted to bright things, soft things, sparkly things, flowers, fake fur, princess dresses. If I could, I’d live inside a big pearlescent soap bubble surrounded by bright colors and animals.

In reality, however, I don’t really exhibit the soap bubble side. I don’t have any pets and my house is mostly grey, white and blue. I just bought this grey couch (it is velvet though!) and put some grey and white throw pillows on it. Then online I found this accent chair online that is a grey fabric with butterflies and flowers all over it. It’s so pretty! I was going to pull the trigger and buy it. Then I went to a friend’s house yesterday. Floor to ceiling was whites, greys, and blacks with a bit of tasteful color on one wall only. Wool, natural fibers, wood floors, it looked very expensive, muted, calm. When I came home, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to buy the butterfly chair after all. Would it look too bright and weird? Too funky? Cheap? Not grown up enough? Will my house be chaotic if the furniture isn’t cohesive?

So I looked at a bunch of grey chairs last night. They are so plain, but practical in the sense that then I could get some bright pillows or something.

What does this have to do with shampoo bars? Well, I think some people will always go with the tried and true shampoo in a bottle that they have been using for years. They are not sure if they should try something new and interesting, something that maybe even works BETTER than the plain old bottle. The fancy house I was in had lots of different soaps, shampoo and conditioner, and lotion in bottles in all the bathrooms. Tasteful, plain, old fashioned.

I’m ready to move into the future with shampoo and conditioner bars! Are you? Let’s leave old school behind and move forward with less plastic! Your hair will look better and so will your house with less plastic bottles around.

Ok, I’m going to go buy the butterfly chair now.
